CITADEL FORT ( Fort Adelaide)

The Citadel Fort is a fort that sits on the top of Petite Montagne hill in the northern part of the island. The Fort is located at a height of 100 meters above sea level. As a remnant of the colonial era, this fort offers a stunning and breathtaking view of the city of Port Louis and was known in colonial times as Adelaide Fort. This citadel was built by Colonel Cunningham in the 19th century when he was tasked with protecting the British army from advancing enemy forces. Citadel Fort is one of the most picturesque places to capture memories of history.

CHINA TOWN & PORT LOUIS CENTRAL MARKET

Mauritius’ capital, Port Louis, is home to the Central Market which is located in an area that is known for its number of different local markets and government offices. It is located in a prime location in the center of the city, just steps from the harbor, the central bank, and the National Assembly. The streets in the city are paved with stone walls that date back to the Victorian era, some of which were built in 1839. As a result of the growing number of customers, builders added several stalls as well as a covered food court to accommodate them.

In Port Louis, there is a popular area called Chinese Town that stretches for about 500 meters along with a well-known street named Rue Royale. It is regarded as one of the most valuable cultural heritages of Mauritius. Chinese cuisine is one of the most famous things about this area, as it offers a wide variety of delicious street food. Mauritians often enjoy dishes that are a specialty of Chinese culture such as fried noodles, dumplings, chop suey, and Pekin ducks.

MAURITIUS NATIONAL BOTANICAL GARDEN

Located in Port Louis, the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden (SSR Botanical Garden) is the largest Botanical Garden in Mauritius. A variety of tropical plants can be found in the SSR Botanical Garden of Mauritius, including many indigenous species. The Botanical Garden of Mauritius was first established nearly 300 years ago as a private garden by the French governor of Mauritius. It has since become a national botanical garden.

CAP MALHEUREUX RED CHURCH

Among the most famous churches in Mauritius is the Notre Dame Auxiliary Chapel. This is a Roman Catholic church with a bright red roof set against a turquoise blue sea and blue sky. In the small fishing village of Cap Malheureux, ten minutes from Grand Bay is the red-roofed church. Due to the numerous ships that have been wrecked there in the past, it translates to “Unfortunate/Unhappy Cape”. Notre Dame Auxiliary Chapel is known for its red roofs, which attract many viewers and make for a gorgeous backdrop for a decent photo. Built in 1938, this chapel was dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It offers stunning views of the five northern islands, including Gunner’s Quoin (Coin de Mire) and the northernmost point of Mauritius.

L’AVENTURE DU SUCRE – SUGAR MUSEUM

The former Beau Plan sugar factory was founded in 1797 but stopped working in 1999 and was later converted into a museum. Throughout Mauritius’ history and identity, sugar has played a pivotal role and has had a considerable impact. During a visit to the museum, visitors learn about the deep connection between sugar and Mauritius through a tour of the exhibits. The tour ends with a tasting of sugar and rum.
The Village Shop carries handcrafted souvenirs and artifacts for sale. Le Fangourin Restaurant offers a menu with local flavors that are inspired by the sweet taste of sugar.

CHATEAU DE LABOURDONNAIS

The Château de Labourdonnais was constructed between 1856 and 1859 and it is surrounded by an area of beautiful orchards that add to the beauty of the property. In 2006, this colonial architecture was restored to its original glory. In modern times, the Château de Labourdonnais has become one of the most significant cultural attractions in Mauritius. It is a valuable part of the national heritage of the country.

In Mauritius, visitors can immerse themselves in the island’s rich history, nature, cuisine, and savoir-faire, which makes for an unforgettable experience for you and your family.

A little bit about us

Established in 1977 in Quatre-Bornes, Taxi Service Mauritius is the first taxi-hailing company in Mauritius that dispatches vehicles to pick up guests on-demand throughout the island. We are most familiar with the North Tour of Mauritius, and it is a popular excursion. We also learned how to provide friendly service to tourists visiting the island. Our online platform and taxi app serve visitors from across the globe, providing a reliable, easy-to-use booking and payment option for transportation. Thanks to our friendly, dedicated & fantastic staff, we have built a very positive 5-Star reputation on our TripAdvisor & Trustpilot profiles in the last few years. In contrast to the competition, we believe that every transfer requires planning and briefing. Based on your special requests, we will send the right driver to you and not just one who roams around your pick-up location. Taxi Service Mauritius ensures a high level of service by planning trips in advance and notifying customers of the driver’s details a day before the trip. Also, that is why we recommend booking at least one day in advance. Basically, we offer excellent tours at a reasonable price (usually 30%-50% less expensive than individual hotel taxis) in Mauritius.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the prices per vehicle or per person?

Transportation prices shown on our website are always per vehicle (not per person). The price you see is the price you pay to your driver after the tour is completed. No hidden fees. Your driver will be aware of the pre-arranged price.

How do I pay for my tour?

(1) Cash payment can be made to the driver in MUR, EUR or USD or (2) Pay-Online in EUR prior to the tour. The payment link can be found in your booking voucher (near the tour amount).

If I need a tour within the next 12 hours, can I book it online?

If you require a tour within the next 12 hours, we highly recommend you to speak to someone at Taxi Service Mauritius either by Phone/Email/Chat or WhatsApp. Do not book it online. Note that we cannot confirm bookings out of office hours.

Will I have to share the vehicle with others who are not in my party?

We only do private tours. When you reserve a vehicle via our company, no matter whether it is a 3 passenger car, 8 passenger minivan or 20 passenger minibus, the vehicle is exclusively yours for the whole journey.

Where will the driver meet me?

Your driver will wait for you at your hotel reception on-time. If you are staying in an apartment of villa, please provide a contact number so that the driver can give you a call when he reach your accommodation.

What if do not find the driver?

In rare cases, customers may take some minutes to locate their driver. Our customers receive their driver’s contact details by email one day before the tour. Customers call liaise with the driver directly or simply our office or hotline so that our personnel can assist you & liaise with the driver.

Are the vehicles fully licensed and insured?

All supplied vehicles are fully licensed by the local authorities and carry an up to date Public service transport license. Be careful of bogus airport transfer advertisers as there are a number openly operating in Mauritius without licenses and liability insurance.
